REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPISTS:

Toby Neuman, RMT/CEO

I have been a Registered Massage therapist for 9 1/2 years. I initially acquired my registration in Ontario and moved to the west coast in 2001. I have worked in Yaletown, Kerrisdale and in the downtown core.

After sharing a space with an alternative health care provider, I came to notice that I was having to turn new clients away as well I  kept hearing that there was not a lot of availability for massage therapy sessions in the downtown area. I believe, through professional and personal experience, that the human body needs to be dealt with on different levels. Body, mind & spirit are the 3 components that alternative health care focuses on. By treating certain clients over the years, with all my knowledge in the massage therapy field, I noticed I could only take them so far, I could only help them to reach a certain level of health. I knew other modalities would help but when asked where to go, I fell short or it was too far for them to travel too. After 4 1/2 years, I have decided to open a multi-disciplinary clinic that would help them with reaching an optimal level of health. I also wanted to make sure that majority of the services offered at the clinic would be covered under their extended health care plans and not necessarily come out of pocket.

I believe that starting with simple applications and reducing stress, the human body has the ability to rebalance itself. Also, we as Registered Massage Therapists can help you reach a certain level within your treatment time but encourage everyone to take the next step and include home care in their routine.

Janet Lee, RMT

My studies began at the University of Saskatchewan where I completed two degrees, one in education and the other in studio art.  After teaching, I decided to focus solely on artistry within the makeup industry.  As I became more aware of my own health through naturopathic care, yoga, and dance, I decided to pursue a career within the healing arts. Upon completing the 3000 hour program at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy, I realized first hand how on-going stress plays a direct role in one’s health.   I do believe that one must be aware of how to incorporate balance daily within a busy lifestyle.  Massage therapy can contribute positively to one’s health through education, exercise awareness, and stress relief.

I welcome new clientele to Sinclair Wellness for massage therapy treatments.  My massage techniques may include, but are not limited to, myofascial release, trigger-point release, joint-mobilizations, muscle energy techniques and Swedish massage.  I may also incorporate cranial sacral modalities or basic manual lymph drainage techniques.

TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE PRACTITIONERS/ACUPUNCTURISTS:

Teresa Nieman, TCM.P/R.Acp

Welcome! My name is Teresa Nieman and I am a Chinese medicine practitioner here at the Sinclair Wellness Centre. I began my schooling in 1997 at the University of Victoria, where I captained the varsity soccer team. During this time, I received copious treatments for various injuries and this is where I encountered my first needling experience in my calf muscles. The pain was gone and my passion for natural healing began. I wanted to learn how to help the body heal itself so that injuries and pain would not reoccur.

So upon completion of my Bio-Psych degree in 2003, I set out on an exploration of over 20 countries. It was in these countries that I sought out traditional healing and discovered my niche in the world. I returned back to the west coast to start my schooling at PCU College of Holistic Medicine in 2005 and became a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioner.

TCM has been around for over 3000 years. The premise is simple, balance; it uses a complex meridian system that connects every part of your body.  This is why the entire body must be assessed and treated for balance to be achieved and the root cause to be eliminated. Meridians are energy pathways throughout the body. They include, but are not exclusive to your blood, organ, lymphatic, and nervous systems. One meridian can affect other meridians and they are very susceptible to blockages and imbalances.

Although western research has statistically shown acupuncture’s efficacy on pain, treating just the symptom is only a tiny part of the holistic assessment. My dedication is to find out why the body is unable to heal on its own and what triggers the reoccurrence of pain. Negative emotions, overexertion, past traumas, poor eating habits and lack of restful sleep can compromise our immunity, target our meridian system and most often trigger physical pain. My goal is to focus on the root of the problem so that the pain cannot be triggered again.

With all the stressors in modern living it is a constant struggle to be and remain balanced. I incorporate the whole body into my treatments using Hara (Japanese palpation) acupuncture and Chinese medicine philosophy. Every case is unique; I tailor an individualized wellness program for each patient in order to achieve optimal results and to allow this patient to aid in their healing process. My patients comment that, in addition to their pain cessation, they feel more energized, balanced and connected in their daily lives.
